My Polo Dog

cardigan, shirt and pants, Old Navy; belt, Gianni Bini; watch, Fossil; wedges, Nine West

I've enjoyed taking my photos in the backyard lately.  The weather has been gorgeous and being in the backyard means that I get to spend time with my little guy, Selwyn.  I have been fortunate enough to have him in my life for over 3 years now.  I was looking through these photos during my break from class last night when a friend commented that he looks like a Polo dog.  Hmmm... yes, I think I agree and I also think we'd make a lovely couple in an advertisement, don't you?

Happy weekend, dear readers! With the onset of finals I will spend the weekend in front of a computer.  But, I hope that you will get to spend it in the great outdoors enjoying the beautiful weather!

in love.

shades, Payless sample; tunic, TJ Maxx; leggins, Target; sandals, Dolce Vita; bag, Christian Siriano for Payless

I bought these Dolce Vita sandals last spring while on my spring break.  I was visiting one of my best friends in Indianapolis for the week.  She and her boyfriend were, of course, working during the day so that left me with plenty of time... to shop.  These were one of my shoe purchases.  Yes, one.  I came home with three pairs of shoes and I thought I may not live to see my wedding day.  My husband is a good man.  Fortunately it's a year later and I'm still in love with the sandals, and my husband and are still in love with each other.

a sign of the times

shirt, Brooks Brothers; belt, Gianni Bini; shorts, Old Navy; shoes, Nine West

Every year about this time, I become a huge skeptic.  I somehow convince myself that regardless of what the weatherman says, it will turn cold again (we got snow last April, for goodness sake!).  I talk myself out of wearing clothes that are too "summery", and instead end up in outfits that are drab and not at all in tune with the new season.  But, not this year.  Yes, in fact, mother nature is telling me everything I need to know about how I should dress if I would just listen. So, yesterday I did just that.

it's here!

Dear Readers, what are you up to this wonderful Easter weekend? I am happy to report that the hubbie and I are going to get away tonight and tomorrow. We've made reservations at a quaint Bed & Breakfast about 4 hours from here in a small town called Hermann, located right outside of St. Louis.  Hermann is nestled along the Missouri River and is known for its great wineries and local eats.  We plan on indulging in some of the local flavor in addition to relaxing for a couple of days. As for the big day itself (Sunday, of course) we'll be attending Easter service in the morning and then having a huge brunch with our closest family and friends. It should be a great weekend, indeed.  For now though, I'll leave you with this - remember last Friday when I found this wonderful hint of spring in my yard?

Well... this week I found this magnificent explosion of spring in its place!  It's official: spring has sprung!

Happy Easter and weekend! I'll see you on the flip side!

better late than never

I don't usually post this late in the day, but I haven't felt the best in the last 24 hours.  So, after several doses of NyQuil resulting in nearly 18 hours of sleep, I finally feel like looking at something other than the back of my eyelids.  Regardless, I did want to round out the week with a few things that made it a little bit brighter.  The first is the shirt you see above. I am in love with the vintage Barbie graphic on this tank.  I found it several years back while shopping at Target (of all places!). The graphic adds an interesting little detail to just about any outift.  I would show you the entire outfit, but I took this picture yesterday evening after taking the most annoying exam ever, and the look on my face shows it.  Trust me, the tank is all you really need to see.

While outside taking my outfit photos, I also came across this....
The first signs of spring in my yard! These yellow buds will turn into gorgeous daffodils in a few short weeks when they open up!

And, finally thank you to Emily of pamja libri for the blog award! This is the first award I've received and I couldn't think of a better lady from which to receive the award.  And, in the spirit of giving I will give it to another fantastic bloggette - Gracey Loo of Money Smart Fashion

Happy weekend, dear readers! I'll see you on The Flip Side!

stuck in the middle with you

Thankfully the snow from the weekend is melting quickly, and since the sun is back to making an appearance in the mornings, I finally get to wear something other than sweater dresses and scarves to work. However, I will admit that being stuck in between seasons can be sartorially challenging for me - especially during this time of year. I find myself hesitant of bearing open toes without tights. And, I am still restraining myself from wearing too many sheer fabrics for fear of Mother Nature reverting back to cooler temperatures at some point in the day. Yesterday, layering was the perfect solution which meant I was able to go without my trench between work and class. A shirt dress and cardigan paired with leggings and boots (because let's face it - it was 30 degrees in the morning) was appropriate attire for both morning and afternoon. The only thing I would have liked better was a little more color. Maybe next week my goal should be pastels…

A Taste of McQueen

cropped blazer, McQ by Alexander McQueen for Target; dress, Target;
tights, Payless sample; shoes, Steve madden; necklace, me

Do you have an article of clothing or an accessory in your wardrobe that you are grateful you purchased because you know the opportunity will never come back?  Right now, this cropped blazer is that piece in my wardrobe.  I bought this about a year ago when Alexander McQueen did a line for Target.  I've always loved his work, but sadly enough could never afford it.  While it may not be as flashy as his couture line, it is my little piece of what he brought to fashion.

gray with a hint of sun.

The weather all week has been gray, with a little hint of the sun peeking through every now and then. My outfit choice today reminded me of that.

On a side note: these two lovely necklaces are still available for sale in the shop. They are great worn separately or paired together like I styled them today. Stop by and pick one (or two!) up, or just peruse the other items available for sale. I have more items coming to the store soon, so stay tuned!

Spring Fever

Shades, Ralph Lauren $25 (on sale!); tee, Victoria Secret $15;
pants, Old Navy $15; bag, Aldo $30; shoes, Steve Madden $90

Today ended up being one of the nicest days we've had in Kansas in months.  The sun was out when I left for work, and when I got home (bonus)!  So, in honor of this beautiful weather we're suddenly having I broke out of the dull black wardrobe that I feel like I've lived in for the last 3 months, and instead opted for spring-inspired pastels.  I even got to wear my shades.  Now, if I could just trade in all the firewood behind me for a ton of sandals - I'd be set!

I heart S/S 2010

Maybe it's because I've seen a 25-year record snow in Kansas this winter.  Maybe it's because for the first time in my life I've experienced highs of 0 degrees.  Or, maybe it's because I'm ready for a change of wardrobe.  Regardless of the reason I can't seem to keep my mind off wearing some of the new Spring trends.  I love the Silk Bow Sandal (pictured above) from Vionnet.  It incorporates one of the season's hottest trends - prints - and I get to show off my painted toe nails again!

Winter Blues... & Pinks... & Yellows...

I am in love with these leather wrap bracelets from Nordstroms. They make me think of Spring…

::sigh:: Oh, how I long for you, Spring.

Unfortunately, Punxsutawney Phil did see his shadow today, so it looks like I get to enjoy another 6 weeks of winter. I guess that means that in order to make it through, I should buy this bracelet in every color :)
