business in the front, party in the back

No, I'm not endorsing mullets. But, this outfit kind of reminds me of that saying - business jacket on top, party shoes on the bottom. There's nothing I love more than a good blazer, and the metallic booties really jazz the whole ensemble up. Speaking of which, don't you love it when you find a good steal that actually looks trendy the following season? That has been my luck with these BCBG booties.  I actually purchased these two or three years ago at the end of Winter for a mere $25. I wasn't sure if they would look trendy or ridiculous in the following years, but I liked them at the time and decided the price was right.  Fortunately, similar silhouettes and styles in booties have continued strong and I still sport them proudly.

Happy Hump Day!

so long, farewell, auf wiedersehen, goodbye.

Today I say goodbye (get the post title reference* yet?) to a very special friend.... jeans Mondays.  You see, this summer my office instituted a temporary dress policy that offered employees the option of wearing jeans to work on both Fridays and Mondays. An option which came in handy on more than one rushed Monday morning when I had not given an outfit much thought.  However, as with all great things, my denim days must come to an end and so, with the end of summer comes the end of jeans Mondays. I decided to dress my jeans up a bit today to celebrate the occasion.

*Ps - It's from The Sound Of Music, of course!
**Pss - Thank you to everyone for the overwhelmingly positive response to the 1st Free Friday! You still have until Thursday night at 11:59 pm central standard time to enter to win the Christian Siriano bag! And, I've already decided on this Friday's giveaway item and trust me, it's going to be another good one... :)

Casual Friday... Err, Monday

As previously noted, I am fortunate enough to work in a 24/7 business casual environment. This means on Fridays just about anything goes, and this summer I've been able to enjoy that same casual feel on Mondays as well. However, sometimes I feel like our version of business casual is a tad more casual than business. So, today I changed that up a bit. While I would never trade our laid back dress policy for daily suits and pumps, sometimes I do enjoy a little hint of corporate attire. It's amazing how much a blazer can change an outfit. This $5 thrift store find has gone a long way. A you can see, I was having a hard time deciding between the traditional blue or spunky plaid shirt beneath my blue blazer. We'll see... it's nice to have options.

Sunday I finally started to feel some relief from my cold.  However, since a 'bout of cabin fever had now started to set in, I decided to get out of the house for a while.  Besides, even if I hadn't been feeling better - the sun was finally out!  I mean look at this picture - I have a shadow!  Despite it being a little bit warmer outside, I still couldn't bring myself to go without long sleeves and long pants (I had been running a fever all weekend).  So, I rolled up my jeans and took a hard left at Prepsterville.  Several hours of shopping, three cups of java, and a late lunch with my BFF later, and I felt almost as good as new!

Classic Equestrian

Much like everyone else, I love Fridays!  And now I love the last day of the work week even more because Friday means I get to wear jeans to the office.  This morning, however, there was one more equally important element to my outfit and that was warmth.  For the last two days, the high temperature in Kansas has been 15 degrees which meant I was packing my flats in my hobo and instead wearing my Uggs to work.  But not this morning!  Since jeans were an option in the wardrobe equation I woke up channeling a classic.  I immediately went to my staple for both style and warmth - the riding boots. Instantly, I knew today's outfit would be all about my inner equestrian.  Although I've never actually ridden a horse, with boots that look this good does it really matter?
