Weekend Happiness!

I promise I will resume regular posting and outfit photo taking next week.  This weekend my goal is to get caught up because this week has been a very sartorially satisfying week! For now, I have one last leftover outfit photo from the collection to share.  I'm still lovin' the Modcloth skirt I purchased last month.  Despite being floral, the colors work well for Fall. Paired with my fav riding boots and I'm set.

Crazy Busy

Between work, mid-terms and life in general, this week has been completely nuts. I have several great outfits to share with you, but no time to shoot photos! Ugh! Here is an outfit that I gave you a sneak peek of from our anniversary trip.  Like I mentioned earlier this week, I'm slightly in love with plaid right now. And, I stalked these boots on Nordstroms.com last fall until I couldn't stand it any longer! Luckily for me, we're still in love :)

Happy Hump Day, everyone! Thankful a week full of chaos is beginning its slow descent to Friday. Any plans for the weekend? Is it bad that I'm already dreaming of sleeping in on Saturday morning?

This past weekend, the hubbie and I had the most amazing time relaxing and celebrating our first anniversary!  We spent three wonderful days enjoying a Branson, Missouri B&B with our own private deck and hot tub nestled in the trees, high above Lake Taneycomo. There was wine tasting, helicopter rides, zip lines and live bands in beautiful gardens. Needless to say, going back to reality yesterday was slightly rough...

It is my fashion belief that there are two things every girl must have fun with regardless of age: jewelry and nail polish. This weekend I had a blast with both (more details later this week!), and it all started on Friday with some Silly Bandz. Yes, I know my age. I got enough crap from my husband that evening when I wore them to dinner with his family. However, my Silly Bandz wound up being a hit with everyone, when after two pitchers of margaritas we ended up playing "guess what animal this Silly Band is" before shooting them at each other! 

Then, on Saturday this beautiful little ring became the newest piece in my collection. I love how the pops of colors look like they are bursting out of the ring! It makes me think of balloons or confetti... or maybe popcorn (that was actually my BFF's interpretation). Either way, I had fun. Oh yeah, and I painted my nails grey :)

raise your head high, and strut what ya Mama gave ya!

Do you ever have outfit ideas that you just can't seem to get rid of? I do, and Saturday was one of those days. Since the Modcloth skirts I ordered two weeks ago had finally arrived I just had to break them out. However, I also had a strange pull toward another article of clothing in my closet: cowboy boots. For some reason these two pieces came together in my head so clearly that I knew I would not be happy until I made the look work. But, after trying on 5 different tops and taking exactly 25 photos on the front porch, I began to question my outfit and called my BFF to ask him what he thought.... 

Well, let's just say that he didn't exactly give me the stamp of approval I was searching for (in my defense, he did grow up in Texas!)... 

Then in a strange twist, he said "but I know you, and you'll rock the look." Huh?! You just told me you wouldn't laugh at me too hard if I wore it to lunch (yes, we're that good of friends) and now you're telling me I'll rock it? He then went on to explain that he knew I'd look great because of my confidence. Fair enough. I've always believed that confidence is what makes a look, and I still do (see #5). So, I threw on that 6th top (the one I'm wearing here) and my cowboy boots and strutted my stuff all the way to Starbucks, to lunch and then home to study. And, did not question my sartorial decision again!

It has taken me a couple of seasons to get warmed up to the idea of a romper.  My husband likes to refer to these as onesies and my BFF's opinion is that only toddlers wear them. Regardless, however, of the way the men in my life feel, this is one item that has been high on my "Must Buy" list this summer. You can probably then imagine my esteem joy when I picked this one up at TJ Maxx for only $12! 


Last weekend we went to my in-laws house for a cookout, and it took me only 30 seconds to get dressed as I knew exactly what I wanted to wear. Before we left, I snapped these photos in our backyard and I was fortunate enough to have two guests join me!  In the bottom photo you'll see the tops of two heads that haven't made an appearance recently. 

Weekend Must Have: Lemon Drop Martini!

Last weekend the hubbie had to work both Saturday (and night) as well as Sunday, which meant I had the weekend left to myself to clean, blog, organize and basically do whatever I wanted. So, after a full day Saturday filled with home improvement projects, walks with the dogs, and catching up with the 'rents over the phone, I settled in for some quality DVR time. I don't normally mix drinks at the house as I tend to be more of a wino, but for some reason a martini sounded like a good idea. A few shots of citrus vodka and several cups of lemon juice later and I had one tasty Lemon Drop Martini in my hands! Whether you're enjoying some alone time this weekend or having some girlfriends over, I would highly recommend making this part of your weekend. Enjoy!

Lemon Drop Martini

• 2-3 cups of lemon juice (I have rather large martini glasses)
• Sugar or Splenda to taste (I recommend tasting prior to adding vodka to make sure it's the right level of sweet - I used about 1/3 cup) 
• 2 shots Vodka (plain or citrus flavored)
• 1 curled slice of lemon peel to garnish
• Shake with ice and enjoy in a large martini glass!

Culinary Bliss

Our evening Saturday night in downtown Kansas City was quite wonderful. What the rain before dinner prevented (shopping), dinner definitely made up for (hmmm... lots of chocolate!). Three fondue pots, two and half hours, 2 salads and one happy couple later made for a great date night. As promised on Friday, I did wear my single shoulder sun dress and loved every minute of it - especially the part where I ate way too much. Let me tell you that the very forgiving waistband came in handy afterwards. 


Side note: I need to find a way to wear this dress more often. I mean let's face it, we're busy and the hubby and I don't get many date nights. The single shoulder element of the dress makes it slightly hard to wear it to the office, so it has me a little stumped. Thoughts on this dress outside of date night?  How would you wear it?

Grecian Holiday

Okay, first of all let me start by saying that I know the name of the movie is Roman Holiday, but that didn't really fit my post. Second, it might be somewhat of an understatement to say that I've lived in belted sun dresses this summer (evidence here, here, here, and here). However, there is one that I feel has been sorely under appreciated: the one shoulder sun dress. I have a cutie hanging in my closet that, since our wedding and honeymoon festivities, has gone unloved.  However, that will end this weekend.  The hubbie and I are going to enjoy a date night and some needed relaxation in Kansas City, and what do you think is going with me? Oh my goodness! To say that this weekend was a little bit of fun would be a huge understatement. We danced, sang, screamed, and savored every moment of the experience. Coming back to reality this week has been a little rough, but I did want to share a few pictures my BFF captured during the concert. 

I'll try to get some outfit pics cleaned up and ready for posting sometime this week. I was so consumed with the whole experience that I must admit that photo taking took a little bit of a backseat. There are times where some things are just more important :)

Happy 4-Day Work Week!

Going back to work after a wonderful, three day weekend is never easy.  However, the wonderful memories I have from this weekend paired with the joy of knowing there are only four days this week instead of five, should help to ease the pain.  I hope everyone had a safe, and memorable, 4th of July 2010!

The summer is all about grilling out and sipping margaritas with friends (so far this summer I've done both so many times I've lost count!).  I would really love to wear this outfit to a summer party. The flat sandals make it casual and the skirt is both cute and festive (4th of July, anyone?)!  The small clutch means you can still carry your phone, while also holding onto your drink. 

Speaking of drinks and grilling out, we did a little of both on Sunday in honor of Father's day.  Pictures and menu to post later in the week!

Welcome back!  I hope you were able to enjoy a relaxing long weekend, dear readers!  I must admit that mine did not dissapoint.  You see, for the better part of the last 4 years I have worked a string of schedules that involved working most holidays (ah, the joy of retail!).  So, the concept of having days like Memorial Day or Labor Day or sometimes even Thanksgiving Day off, still seems a bit foreign.  But, I loved every minute of this weekend.  Saturday, especially, was fantastic! My BFF and I decided to celebrate the start of the holiday weekend by doing a little cruisin' in the convertible followed by margaritas on the patio.  The warmth of the sun, a gentle breeze through my hair and laughs with a great friend equals a pretty amazing day :)

I have one more exam left.  One stinkin' exam, which kept me inside the majority of Saturday studying.  However, while my body might have been hunched over a computer, my mind kept me wandering through one warm summer adventure after another, in a land far, far away.  To make matters worse, it was quite chilly outside this weekend (high: 57 degrees) which meant sandals and summery dresses were out of the equation.  So, instead of a warm land far, far away; I had to settle for a somehwat cool, small spot of land I call my backyard.
